2012 FEE SCHEDULE:

  • Single car or minivan - $5.00 per visit
  • Single car with trailer - $10.00 per visit
  • Single pickup truck $10.00 per visit
  • Single pickup truck with trailer - $20.00 per visit
  • $5.00 per tire
  • $10.00 per tire with rim

PROOF OF WALKER RESIDENCY REQUIRED, (Drivers License, Tax Bill, Voter Card.)

WE WILL ACCEPT:

  • APPLIANCES - REFRIGERATORS WILL HAVE TO HAVE COOLANT REMOVED w/CERTIFICATE (check with an appliance store)
  • COMPUTERS, ALL ELECTRONICS
  • WOOD - BRUSH – LEAVES-GRASS CLIPPINGS
  • METAL
  • MISC.

WILL NOT ACCEPT:

  • GARBAGE
  • HAZARDOUS WASTE (see examples below)
  • No commercial vehicles

Kent County has a household hazardous waste program. This would be toxic, flammable, corrosive or reactive material.

Examples:

  • Rat poison, weed killers, bug sprays, mercury
  • Oil base paint, paint thinners, lighter fluid, gasoline
  • Acids, lye, oven and toilet bowl cleaners
  • Propane tanks, gas tanks, CO2,, Cylinders, car batteries, household batteries, & bleach mixed with ammonia

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
Public Hearing Notice

The City of Walker, MI, County of Kent will hold a public hearing to consider potential projects for which funding may be applied under the CDBG Program for 2011-2012.

A public hearing will be conducted by the City of Walker Commission on January 10, 2011 at 7:45pm, at Walker City Hall, 4243 Remembrance Rd. NW, Michigan.

Public comments will be received during hearing, orally or in writing, regarding the City of Walker’s proposed use of Kent County’s 2011-2012 Community Development Block Grant Funds.

The County of Kent has allocated a portion of its 2010-2011 federal entitlement Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to the City of Walker. The primary objective of the Federal CDBG Entitlement Program “…the development of viable urban communities, by providing decent housing and suitable living environment and expanding economic opportunities, principally for persons of low and moderate income.”

Activities using CDBG funds must meet one of the following National Objectives: benefiting low and moderate income persons; addressing slums or blight; or, meeting a particularly urgent community development need.

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTIONS 94-171, 94-61, 94-5, 94-406, 94-407 , 94-409, 94-412, and 94-413 OF CHAPTER 94 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF WALKER REGARDING THE HOUSING OF HORSES, ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS PUBLIC NOTICING, SIGNAGE AND BILLBOARD REGULATIONS.
THE CITY OF WALKER ORDAINS:
Section 1. Amendment of Section 94-171 (b) (8) AGRICULTURAL DISTRICT PRINCIPAL USES.
Section 2. Amendment of Section 94-61 ZBA PROCEDURE.
Section 3. Amendment of Section 94-5 DEFINITIONS.
Section 4. Amendment of Section 94-406 (a) SIGNS – Purpose, Intent and General.
Section 5. Amendment of Sections 94-406 (c) (1), (2) SIGN MEASUREMENT.
Section 6. Amendment of Section 94-407 (a) PERMITTED SIGNS AND SIGNBOARDS.
Section 7. Amendment of Section 94-409 SIGNS IN RESIDENTIAL DISTRICTS.
Section 8. Amendment of Section 94-412 NONSTRUCTURAL SIGNS.

Section 11. Effective Date. This Ordinance will become effective upon the expiration of seven days after publication of a notice of ordinance adoption in a newspaper of general circulation within the City of Walker.
